Signals are AI-detected anomalies, trends, and opportunities in your analytics data — the things worth knowing about that you might otherwise miss. They surface automatically; no setup required. Give Moonship a few days of traffic to establish a baseline before the first signals appear.
At a glance
The top of the Signals page summarizes the current state of your site in four tiles:
- Needs attention — active signals that flag a decline or problem (drops, friction, slow pages)
- Worth a look — active signals that flag an opportunity (growth, new sources, new audiences)
- Resolved this week — signals that cleared on their own in the last 7 days, caught and closed out automatically once the condition no longer holds
- Pages watched — how many distinct pages your tracking snippet has collected data on in the last 30 days
Signals are listed newest first.
Signal types
Moonship detects 17 kinds of signal, spanning growth, decline, and conversion issues:
Cold-start signals
Work from day two — these don't need any baseline history.
- Page error (Watch-out) — A page started returning errors — visitors (and search engines) are hitting a broken page
- Slow page high traffic (Watch-out) — A high-traffic page is loading slowly enough to cost conversions
- High bounce high traffic (Opportunity) — A page gets meaningful traffic but most visitors leave without engaging
- Goal never received data (Info) — A configured goal has recorded no conversions since setup — likely a tracking misconfiguration
- Funnel dropoff spike (Watch-out) — A funnel step is losing a much larger share of visitors than it used to
- Low converting source (Watch-out) — A source sends meaningful traffic but converts far below the site average
- Page speed regression (Watch-out) — A page got significantly slower than its own recent baseline
- Browser breakage (Watch-out) — Bounce rate spiked on one browser — a sign the page broke on it
- Referrer broken link (Watch-out) — A site is linking visitors to a page that returns an error
- Breakout page (Opportunity) — A page's traffic has grown steadily for several days — an emerging winner
- Goal milestone (Opportunity) — A goal just crossed a conversion milestone (including its first ever)
Steady-state signals
Kick in once Moonship has roughly a week of history to compare against.
- Goal flatlined (Watch-out) — A goal that normally converts has recorded almost nothing — likely broken tracking or a broken flow
- Conversion drop (Watch-out) — Conversion rate on a tracked goal dropped significantly versus baseline
- Traffic spike (Opportunity) — Traffic to a page is meaningfully above its baseline
- New referrer (Opportunity) — A referrer is driving meaningful traffic that wasn't sending any before
- Engagement lift (Opportunity) — A page is suddenly performing better on engagement than its baseline
- Live page spike (Opportunity) — A page is getting far more traffic this hour than is normal for this hour of day
One event, one card
A single real-world event often trips several signals at once — a launch on Product Hunt is simultaneously a traffic spike, a new referrer, and a new audience; a bad deploy can show up as a broken page, a conversion drop, and a flatlined goal. Rather than flood you with a card for each, Moonship recognizes correlated signals and collapses them into a single card, keeping the most important one and folding the rest in as supporting detail.
Why you don't see everything
Attention is the scarce resource, so Moonship surfaces only the most important signals each day rather than everything it could technically detect. Warnings clear a lower confidence bar than opportunities — we'd rather flag a possible problem early than miss it, but we hold upside to a higher bar so we don't cry wolf. When more candidates exist than the daily budget allows, they're ranked by severity, then confidence, then how recent they are.
Sensitivity
Adjust signal sensitivity in Site Settings:
- Low — only fire on large, highly confident changes (less noise, fewer signals)
- Medium — balanced default; good for most sites
- High — detect smaller changes earlier (more signals, some may be marginal)
AI analysis
Click any signal card to open the detail modal. Moonship uses Claude to analyze the signal and explain why it's happening, what to do about it, and the expected impact of acting on it. Analysis results are cached for 7 days so repeat opens are instant.
